FG Unveils Ambitious Strategy For Overhauling Nigeria’s Textile Sector

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has reaffirmed its dedication to breathing new life into Nigeria’s textile sector. Speaking at a town hall meeting with stakeholders in the cotton value chain in Abuja, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, emphasized the government’s commitment to attracting investors and implementing revitalization strategies.

The minister underscored the potential of the fashion industry to drive demand for domestically produced textiles and apparel, envisioning the creation of 200,000 jobs over the next two years. She outlined plans to modernize existing infrastructure, integrate new technologies, and elevate production standards to enhance competitiveness globally.

President of the Federation of Agricultural Commodity of Nigeria (FACAN), Sheriff Balogun, echoed the need for collaborative efforts and swift action to address industry hurdles. Balogun highlighted the prevailing challenges of foreign exchange shortages, diminished purchasing power, and unemployment, emphasizing the imperative to transform these challenges into opportunities by adding value to raw materials.

He also pointed out the prospect of global clothing exports and stressed the importance of support from entities like Dangote in securing cost-effective diesel fuel, essential for the industry’s operations.
