Film Industry In Kano Subject To Restrictions On Cross-Dressing And Thuggery Themes....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Kano State Film Censorship Board has issued directives barring the screening of films depicting or endorsing cross-dressing and thuggery within the state.

During a recent meeting with Kannywood management and stakeholders, the Board’s executive secretary, Abba El-Mustapha, announced this measure. According to a statement released by the board’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, the decision was prompted by public concerns regarding the potential promotion of criminal activities and inappropriate behaviors among the youth.

El-Mustapha emphasized the importance of identifying and removing any films that might undermine the region’s customs, norms, and values under the guise of seeking popularity, viewership, or profit.

This development coincides with a clarification from the Nigeria Police Force regarding cross-dressing, affirming that it is not considered a criminal offense under Nigerian law. Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), clarified that individuals like the controversial crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, cannot be arrested solely on the basis of their choice of attire or lifestyle.

Adejobi acknowledged that while cross-dressing may not align with societal norms, law enforcement agencies are bound by legal provisions and cannot take action against individuals based solely on their clothing preferences or lifestyle choices.
