Fire Outbreak Hits Customs Office In Lagos, Millions Of Naira Property Destroyed

A fire outbreak has destroyed property worth millions of naira at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Western Marine Command office in Apapa, Lagos.

The incident occurred on Monday and reportedly began at about 10:23 a.m. following an electrical surge in the conference room of the command’s office.

According to Bush Radio Academy, officers on duty immediately made efforts to contain the flames while awaiting the arrival of emergency responders from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at about 10:45 a.m. and joined the efforts to bring the situation under control, preventing the flames from causing further damage to the facility.

Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Timothy Jonah, said the command would constitute a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Jonah added that the investigation would also focus on strengthening existing safety measures and protocols to prevent a similar fire outbreak from occurring in the future.

The extent of the damage is still being assessed, while officials are expected to determine the full value of property destroyed in the incident.
