Fireboy Breaks Silence: I Don’t Relate With Other Artistes
Nigerian singer Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy DML, has explained why he deliberately keeps his personal life away from the public, saying the decision has helped him avoid controversies in the entertainment industry.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the singer made the disclosure while discussing his personality, public image and approach to his music career.
Fireboy said he does not give the public enough information about his private life for people to form opinions or misunderstand him. He also noted that he has maintained a reputation largely free from scandals and does not frequently associate with other artistes in ways that could attract controversy.
The singer explained that he prefers to let his music and artistry speak for him rather than depend on publicity stunts, gimmicks or personal drama to promote his work.
“They don’t know me enough to misunderstand me. I don’t give them enough personality or gist into my personal life. I don’t have scandals, I don’t relate with other artistes, I don’t sell my music with gimmicks,” Fireboy said.
The singer also reflected on his early experience after relocating to Lagos to pursue his musical career, admitting that some of what he encountered initially frightened him.
Speaking during a recent livestream, Fireboy recalled seeing disturbing scenes, including an individual allegedly running naked in the streets and dead bodies, which he said contributed to his fear when he first arrived in the city.
He also mentioned encounters with cultists and said the general appearance and environment of Lagos at the time were among the things that initially terrified him.
Despite those experiences, Fireboy went on to establish himself as one of Nigeria’s prominent contemporary music artistes, with his career largely centred on his music and artistic expression.
