The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, hosted a reception at the State House in Abuja on Monday to celebrate the Super Falcons of Nigeria.

During the event, she welcomed some of the players, their technical team, and officials from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

While acknowledging that the Super Falcons were eliminated in the Round of 16 match against England through a penalty shootout, Mrs. Tinubu, in a statement released by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, praised the players for their representation of Nigeria on the global stage. She highlighted their dexterity and the notice they garnered from the world.

Mrs. Tinubu emphasized that success is not solely determined by the final score but also by the unbreakable spirit and unity demonstrated by the team.

She recognized them as role models, particularly for young girls who can see their aspirations reflected in the players. The First Lady expressed her pride in the team’s efforts and warmly welcomed them back home.

During the reception, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the President of the Nigerian Football Federation, conveyed gratitude to the First Lady for the warm welcome. He assured that the players would continue to deliver a high-quality representation of the country.

The team’s captain, Onome Ebi, shared that the team exerted immense effort to bring the coveted FIFA Women’s World Cup Trophy back home. She pledged that the team would persistently strive to make the nation proud on the football field.

The First Lady was joined by Nana Shettima, the wife of the Vice President, and Ekaette Akpabio, the wife of the Senate President, as they welcomed the players during the event.
