Sources indicate that both Jawa and Flag Boy were detained while participating in a protest against the Cybercrime Act, organized by the TIB Movement.

Flag Boy was arrested by police near the Transcorp Hilton in Maitama, Abuja, as he joined the protest.

However, Yobe State Police Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, has denied any arrests of TIB members or coordinators in the state. He clarified, “The police have not arrested any TIB member or coordinator. We have made ourselves available for any member or coordinator to identify themselves with the police and receive security support for the protest, but so far, no one has come forward.”

In Abuja, a protest led by former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore was met with police resistance as they were blocked from reaching the Eagle Square and Federal Secretariat. Police deployed tear gas, leading to chaos as protesters and journalists sought refuge inside the Transcorp Hilton. Sahara Reporters later reported that Flag Boy, who was carrying the national flag, was targeted by the police, assaulted, and taken away in a police van along with two other demonstrators.
