He made the announcement during the New Year service on Thursday, revealing that four pastors under his leadership—Pastor Sylvester, Pastor Kelvin, Pastor Oliver, and Shadrach—would take over services throughout January 2026.

The decision comes amid public calls for him to step down following reports of sexual allegations from former church members and a high-profile relationship controversy involving actress Doris Ogala. However, it remains unclear whether his decision to step back is directly related to these allegations or the scandal.

Okafor explained, “We have four Sundays in January, so during these Sundays, Pastor Sylvester, Pastor Kelvin, Pastor Oliver, and Shadrach will minister and anoint you every Sunday because it’s going to be prophetic Sundays. While they lead, I will be resting. It will also be a personal retreat with God, and time for me and my wife to rest, because since our wedding, we haven’t had time off—not even a honeymoon.”
