Speaking during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, Kalu said what matters in governance is the capacity to deliver results, not the number of years one has lived. He cited former U.S. President Donald Trump as an example of a leader who attained high office later in life. “I’m 65 years old now. U.S. President Donald Trump is 79. If I’m healthy and God grants me life, I could still be president of Nigeria,” Kalu said. Meanwhile, Kalu recently addressed allegations regarding the ownership of his multimillion-dollar mansion in Potomac, Maryland, USA. A viral video showing the senator giving a property tour sparked claims that he purchased the residence with public funds during his tenure as Abia State governor. The man in the video also mentioned that Kalu owns additional properties in Texas, North Carolina, and the United Kingdom. Responding in a video message on September 10, Kalu dismissed the allegations as false, clarifying that the Potomac mansion was bought before he became governor. “I acquired that property long before my time as governor. People should get their facts right,” he said.
“The question is not about age but competence — what is in my brain that I can use to deliver. It’s not about when or where, but how ready I am.”
