The event saw Sani Sidi and hundreds of his supporters, including several prominent former PDP figures in Kaduna, cross over to the ruling party.
Welcoming the new members, Speaker Abbas described the defection as a “timely and strategic” move, noting that the APC remains a reliable home for patriotic politicians committed to improving the lives of Nigerians.
“This is a joyous day for every APC member in Kaduna,” Abbas said. “In recent years, we have not witnessed such a massive show of solidarity from the opposition. For months, Governor Uba Sani and I have been in discussions with Sani Sidi to convince him to abandon a sinking ship. Thanks to the governor’s tireless efforts, he is now with us.”
Abbas stressed that Sani Sidi’s decision was inspired by the developmental strides of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani, which he said demonstrate the APC’s commitment to good governance.
“You’ve made the right choice,” the Speaker continued. “This party represents peace, purpose, and genuine progress. You are now among allies, and we will treat you with the same dignity and privileges as a founding member of the APC. You won’t regret this decision.”
Also speaking at the event, Governor Uba Sani described Alhaji Sani Sidi as a respected political leader in the state, whose decision to join the APC stemmed from a deep-seated commitment to public service.
“I’m not surprised by his decision. He’s comfortable and self-sufficient, and his choice was not driven by personal interest but by his passion for his people and Kaduna’s development,” the governor stated. “As of today, you and your supporters will be treated equally. In the APC, there is no discrimination.”
Sani Sidi: Why I Left PDP
In his remarks, Sani Sidi clarified that his defection was guided by a desire to serve, not by personal ambition.
He said, “This decision was not made for selfish reasons. I joined the APC because of its progressive agenda and the significant strides being made at both state and federal levels. Along with thousands of my supporters, we are ready to contribute actively to the growth of our party and the development of our state, especially at the grassroots.”
