Former NLC President Passes Away: A Look Back At His Legacy

Former Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Ali Ciroma, Passes Away It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of former Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Ali Ciroma. Mr. Ciroma breathed his last on Tuesday at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri, Borno State capital.

His demise was confirmed by a family member, Ali Ibrahim Ciroma, who also serves as the Secretary of the Borno State Council, Nigeria Union of Journalists.

In a heartfelt statement, Ali Ibrahim Ciroma conveyed, “It is with deep sorrow that I announce the death of Comrade Ali Ciroma, former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress. The sad event occurred this evening (Tuesday, April 2) at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.”

The burial ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, at 4 pm at the deceased’s residence, No.7A along Galadima Road near Muhammadu Shuwa Memorial Hospital (Nursing Home), Maiduguri.

Ali Ciroma led the NLC from 1984 to 1988 until he was ousted from office by the military administration of Gen Ibrahim Babangida, which dissolved the union. Subsequently, during the Abacha administration, he was reinstated into unionism, appointed as the Sole Administrator of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers.
