Observers speculate that Shagari’s defection could be attributed to perceived unfair treatment from the PDP’s national leadership, despite his longstanding dedication to the party.
This move follows a trend of several prominent figures, including former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, leaving the PDP in recent times.
The official switch of party affiliation by Shagari has been confirmed by the state APC secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Yabo, effectively putting to rest rumors that the seasoned politician might remain loyal to the PDP against all odds.
On the other hand, the PDP’s leadership in Sokoto State regards Shagari’s departure as a betrayal, particularly considering the party’s past support for him.
Alhaji Hassan Sahabi Sanyinnawal, the party’s publicity secretary, expressed confidence that Shagari’s exit would not significantly impact the PDP’s strength within the state.
