The one-hour discussion at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library was deemed valuable by Mills, who commended Obasanjo for his insights and deep understanding of Nigeria’s history.

Mills described the library as a “fascinating place” that embodies the hope Nigerians have for the future. “It captures a moment in time filled with optimism for Nigeria, and we all want to see that hope restored,” he noted, highlighting the library’s significance in Nigeria’s historical narrative.

According to a statement from Obasanjo’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, the ambassador also took the opportunity to tour the library and its facilities, referring to his conversation with Obasanjo as “open and frank.” Mills remarked, “He is a friend of the United States, and we always gain valuable insights from our discussions with former President Obasanjo.”

Obasanjo expressed gratitude for the visit, acknowledging the ambassador’s busy schedule since arriving in Nigeria in August, making Thursday’s meeting particularly appreciated.
