Former Presidential Candidate Speaks Out On Aiyedatiwa’s Gubernatorial WinPrince Adewole Adebayo, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has criticized the outcome of the Ondo State governorship election, likening it to a well-organized marketplace and using it as a lesson for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on foreign exchange practices.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Adebayo made his remarks on social media following the declaration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.

In his post on X (formerly Twitter), Adebayo described the election as being more of an “auction” than a free and fair democratic process, claiming it was driven by transactional politics rather than genuine voter choice. He argued that the election reflected a “marketplace” where “willing buyers” and “willing sellers” played the dominant roles.

Adebayo criticized the election as a public display of political transactions, where a four-year mandate was “sold openly and freely” to the highest bidder. He called it a spectacle that criminologists might classify as a “victimless crime” — a situation where both parties in the transaction are complicit. He added, “The Ondo State Governorship Election is what criminologists would term victimless crimes: a spectacle of willing buyers and willing sellers in a perfect market.”

He also pointed out that various media outlets, including the police and INEC, witnessed the process, implying that the election’s outcome was open and unquestionable.

Adebayo concluded by congratulating the “buyers” for their victory, but he expressed sorrow for the “sellers,” offering a metaphorical prayer for forgiveness. He said, “It is in order to congratulate the buyers on their purchased ‘victory’ while shedding some tears for the sellers with the Calvary elegy that ‘Father Forgive Them For They Knoweth Not What They Do.’”

He ended his post with a call for divine guidance for Ondo State, praying, “God Bless Nigeria and may God Guide Ondo State.
