Police authorities in Niger State have apprehended four individuals in Tafa Local Government Area for possession of a substantial cache of weaponry, including 295 rounds of ammunition and an AK-47 rifle. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, disclosed this development during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Minna on February 29, 2024.
The arrests were made following actionable intelligence received by the police, leading them to a poultry farm along Garam/Bwari road via Sabon-Wuse. CP Danmamman stated, “On 18/02/2024 at about 1410hrs, based on information received that one Nuhu Abdullahi of a poultry farm, Sabon-Wuse area of Tafa LGA was suspected to be among the hoodlums terrorizing the area.”
Upon receiving the information, the police promptly mobilized operatives attached to Tafa Division, along with the Tactical Support Team (TST) led by DPO Tafa, to the specified location. Subsequently, the suspects were apprehended at the poultry farm, identified as Nuhu Abdullahi (25 years), Yahuza Isah (24 years), and Mohammed Adamu (42 years), all residents of Dadin-Kowa Sabon-Wuse, Tafa LGA.
A thorough on-the-spot search of the farm premises resulted in the discovery of 295 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition concealed within various bags of grains.
During interrogation, Nuhu Abdullahi confessed that his elder brother, Ibrahim Abdullahi (38 years) from Mangu, Plateau State, had sent him two hundred and ninety-five thousand naira to procure arms and ammunition for illicit activities in Mangu. Ibrahim Abdullahi was subsequently arrested and admitted to his involvement in the crime. Yahuza Isah facilitated the connection between Nuhu Abdullahi and Mohammed Adamu, a vigilante member in Sabon-Wuse.
Mohammed Adamu claimed to have purchased around one hundred and eighty rounds of ammunition at a rate of two thousand, two hundred naira each from a supplier named Rabiu in Kagarko, Kaduna. The transaction was allegedly conducted in Jere, Kaduna State. Another suspect, Commander Dahiru, a vigilante member who is presently at large, is believed to have supplied the remaining quantity of ammunition.
The police are actively pursuing the arrest of both Dahiru and Rabiu to uncover the origins of the ammunition. The case is currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna, and the suspects will face legal charges following the completion of the inquiry.
