The Akwa Ibom State Police Command’s operatives have apprehended four kidnappers disguised in military attire and rescued two individuals who were kidnapped in Uyo.
ASP Timfon John, the command’s spokesperson, announced this in a statement on Sunday, May 26, 2024, mentioning that the suspects were nabbed in response to distress calls. The command swiftly acted upon receiving reports of a kidnapping incident at Utang Street by Gibbs Street, Uyo. The Anti-Robbery Squad (ARS) promptly mobilized to the scene and arrested the four suspects: Abdulkarem Yusuf, Yusuf Waziri, Inbinabo Iboroma, and Abdulrahman Abbas.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had previously abducted Abraham Ekpe at Ring Road 3, opposite Cemetery, and were about to kidnap Ekpe’s friend, Richie, with plans to take them to Odukpani LGA in neighboring Cross River State. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N5 million from Ekpe, but upon his inability to pay, they resorted to kidnapping his friend as well. Fortunately, both victims were successfully rescued and reunited with their families.
