In a farewell meeting, Tinubu encouraged Blatmann to leverage her new role as Director for Africa to advocate for an “upgrade in technical cooperation” between Nigeria and France, emphasizing the joint efforts required to combat terrorism and violent extremism in the region.

Expressing gratitude for Blatmann’s contributions, Tinubu acknowledged her excellence in promoting bilateral relations across various sectors, including the economy, trade, education, arts, and culture. He thanked her for her hard work and highlighted her appointment as Africa Director by President Macron, considering it a testament to her success in Nigeria.

Tinubu assured Blatmann of a warm welcome whenever she visits Nigeria and urged her to consistently remind Paris of the necessity to enhance technical cooperation in regional security efforts against terrorism and violent extremism.

Blatmann, reflecting on her tenure, shared notable achievements, emphasizing France’s substantial investments and a significant increase in bilateral trade. She highlighted France as one of the top foreign investors in Nigeria, with over $10 billion in investment stock and a 51% increase in bilateral trade in 2021 and 2022.

She also pointed out France’s role as a major development partner, with over 3 billion euros invested over the last decade by AFD and PROPARCO, operating in 26 of Nigeria’s 36 states. Blatmann expressed appreciation for the vibrant energy and creativity of Nigeria, which she described as a source of inspiration that would guide her and fuel her afro-optimism.
