Tony Okocha, the caretaker chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has renewed accusations against Tonye Cole, the party’s former governorship candidate, alleging that Cole engaged in anti-party activities against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu……CONTINUE READING
In a statement on Wednesday, Okocha claimed that throughout the 2023 campaign, Cole’s billboards, banners, and posters did not feature Tinubu’s image, reflecting a lack of support for the APC’s presidential candidate.
Okocha alleged that Cole, along with others, covertly supported the PDP’s Atiku Abubakar despite being APC members. He further claimed that Tinubu was aware of Cole’s opposition to his presidency, which, according to Okocha, led to Tinubu’s refusal to shake Cole’s hand following his presidential victory.
Okocha stated, “It is now well known that Tonye Cole was a staunch supporter of Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate. This support was evident to everyone, including President Tinubu and the APC National Chairman. Cole, along with Amaechi and Emeka Bekee, backed Atiku Abubakar during the last election, contrary to the APC’s candidate.”
He continued, “The fact that Tinubu did not actively campaign for Cole in Rivers State during the 2022 APC rally at Yakubu Gowon Stadium reflects his awareness of Cole’s lack of support. Throughout Cole’s campaign, none of his promotional materials featured Tinubu’s image, showing his deliberate distance from the APC’s presidential candidate.”
Okocha also suggested that Cole’s actions were influenced by Rotimi Amaechi and Atiku Abubakar, leading to a clear separation from Tinubu and the APC.
