The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has officially awarded its senatorial ticket for Ogun Central to former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Obasanjo secured the ticket on Wednesday after she was formally received into the PDP during a large rally held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, following her recent exit from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The reception event was preceded by a procession through major streets in Abeokuta, with Senator Obasanjo accompanied by the party’s governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, supporters, and PDP members from Ogun Central and other parts of the state.

Presenting the party flag, the PDP State Chairman, Abayomi Tella, welcomed her into the party and officially declared her the party’s candidate for Ogun Central in the upcoming election.

Tella said, “On behalf of our National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, and the entire National Working Committee of the PDP, I, Abayomi Tella, PhD, the State Chairman of the PDP, and on behalf of PDP Ogun Central, present to our revered sister, Prof. Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, this flag as the authority of the party for her candidature for the Senate in Ogun Central.”

After taking the party’s oath, Senator Obasanjo pledged allegiance to the PDP constitution, manifesto, and code of conduct, promising to prioritise the welfare of citizens above personal or sectional interests.

She said her decision to leave the APC was driven by what she described as disrespect, betrayal, and unfair treatment by the party’s leadership.

According to her, the actions of some party members she once supported politically contributed to her departure, adding that she remains confident of victory in the forthcoming election.

“I commit myself to the ideals of the PDP. I shall serve the people of Ogun State and Nigeria with integrity, humility, and dedication, prioritising their welfare above personal and sectional interests,” she stated.

Also speaking at the event, Ladi Adebutu pledged that if elected, his administration would prioritise local government autonomy to ensure effective grassroots governance.

He further promised transparency and prudence in the management of public funds, assuring residents that public resources would be properly accounted for.

“Our parents have taught us well, and I want to assure you that we won’t steal public funds,” Adebutu said.

“Local governments will get their funds accordingly, and we shall be transparent in all our dealings,” he added.
