Fresh Twist! Lawyer Reveals Where Moroccan Woman Linked To Sheikh Gumi Really Is

A lawyer representing Moroccan national Khadija Diab has dismissed claims that the woman is being kept by Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, stating that she returned to Morocco in April 2026 and is currently staying with her family.

Bilkisu Abdulrasheed Chedi, Executive Director of Women Aware of Rights Initiative, said her organisation assisted Diab in obtaining an emergency travel document after the woman reportedly decided to leave Nigeria following a marital dispute with her Nigerian husband, Nasiru Idris Musa.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Chedi made the clarification in a video shared on Gumi’s verified Facebook page amid controversy over Diab’s whereabouts. She maintained that allegations linking the Moroccan woman to Gumi were false and unfounded.

Chedi said Diab’s family confirmed that she arrived safely in Morocco and had remained there for several months. She added that Moroccan immigration authorities and the Moroccan Embassy in Nigeria also confirmed the woman’s return.

The lawyer explained that Diab initially approached Women Aware of Rights Initiative in October 2025 seeking assistance over alleged domestic abuse, poor maintenance and other marital difficulties. Chedi said the woman also made allegations concerning her conjugal relationship with her husband.

Following the complaints, the organisation reportedly advised Diab to undergo medical examinations. Chedi claimed that the results indicated that the woman had contracted sexually transmitted infections. These claims were made by the lawyer on Diab’s behalf and have not been independently established.

Chedi said Diab subsequently expressed her desire to end the marriage, citing alleged emotional and physical abuse.

A case was then instituted on Diab’s behalf at the Area Sharia Court on Daura Road in Kaduna, with proceedings commencing on October 3, 2025. The matter was later adjourned after Musa’s legal team reportedly filed an application seeking reconciliation between the couple.

According to Chedi, proceedings were subsequently delayed following a change in Musa’s legal representation, after which his new lawyer challenged the jurisdiction of the court. She also cited the absence of lawyers during some proceedings and a judicial workers’ strike in Kaduna as factors that contributed to the delays.

The lawyer said Diab eventually became emotionally distressed and decided to return to Morocco. However, she alleged that the woman’s international passport was in the possession of her husband at the time.

Chedi said Women Aware of Rights Initiative therefore assisted Diab in obtaining an emergency travel document from Moroccan authorities, enabling her to return home in April 2026.

She added that Diab authorised her to continue handling the legal proceedings in Nigeria on her behalf before leaving the country.

Chedi further disclosed that the original case before the Daura Road Sharia Court was discontinued on June 10, 2026, while a fresh case seeking the dissolution of the marriage under Islamic law was filed in July.

The lawyer said she decided to speak publicly to clarify the controversy surrounding Diab’s whereabouts and urged members of the public to disregard claims that the Moroccan woman was being kept by Gumi.

The controversy followed earlier allegations by Musa that Gumi had become involved in his marital dispute and was responsible for keeping his wife away from him. Gumi has denied the allegations and rejected claims that Diab was in his custody.

The latest clarification from Chedi maintains that Diab is currently in Morocco with her family, while the marital dispute and related legal proceedings continue.
