The family of late Nollywood actress, Tope Osoba, has dismissed reports claiming that she died from complications related to cancer, describing the information circulating on social media and some online platforms as false and unauthorised.

Osoba passed away on Tuesday evening, shortly after speaking with some of her colleagues over the telephone.

Hours before her death, the actress reportedly updated her WhatsApp status with the Yoruba phrase “Ogo Tuntun,” meaning “New Glory,” at about 7:23 p.m.

Following news of her passing, several blogs and social media users speculated that her death was connected to her previous battle with breast cancer.

Reacting to the reports, the family, in a statement posted on the actress’ official Instagram page on Thursday, rejected the claims and urged the public to disregard them.

According to the statement, reports surrounding the circumstances of Osoba’s death are inaccurate, speculative and were published without the family’s authorisation.

While the family did not reveal the actual cause of the actress’ death, it stressed that the widespread claims linking her passing to cancer were unfounded.

The family also appealed to the public to refrain from spreading unverified information, noting that the circulation of false reports has added to their grief during this difficult period.

They assured fans and well-wishers that any official information regarding the actress’ passing, including details of her funeral arrangements, would be communicated through her verified social media platforms.
