An aspiring medical student’s life took a tragic turn when his friends pushed him into a Louisiana lake despite knowing he couldn’t swim, leaving him brain-dead. Christopher Gilbert, 26, was shoved off the dock at Lake D’Arbonne in Farmerville on April 14, as captured in a shocking video.

Despite the desperate need for help, the group callously stood by, with one member briefly attempting a rescue before giving up. It took the intervention of a bystander at a nearby restaurant to pull Gilbert out of the water after 10 agonizing minutes. He was rushed to a local hospital but was already brain-dead upon arrival, with his organs beginning to fail. Gilbert, who aspired to become a medical doctor and had recently completed his master’s in biological science, spent 72 hours on life support.

His devastated mother, Yolanda George, expressed disbelief and anguish over the incident. Despite initial attempts to downplay the severity of the situation as mere “horse-play,” one of Gilbert’s friends eventually confessed to pushing him into the lake.

However, none of them acknowledged knowing about Gilbert’s inability to swim, a claim his family finds hard to accept. Personal injury attorney Claudia Payne, representing George, emphasized the malicious intent behind the friends’ actions, as they callously abandoned Gilbert in his time of need. Miraculously, Gilbert has shown signs of cognitive response but remains unable to speak, relying heavily on life support with only 20% lung capacity.

The family demands justice, pressing for the arrest of those responsible for the senseless act that forever altered Gilbert’s life. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of recklessness and disregard for human life.
