From 2013 To 2025: JAMB Exposes Sh*cking Trends In UTME Performance

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of the recently conducted 2025 UTME resit examination, held for candidates affected by technical challenges at designated centres. According to the board, out of 336,845 candidates scheduled for the resit, 21,082 were absent.

Although the board did not elaborate on the reasons behind the high number of absentees, the results were announced in a statement issued by Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, on Sunday.

Key highlights from the statement include:

1. Formation of a Verification Sub-Committee: A sub-committee headed by Prof. Olufemi Peters, Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University and CEE for the FCT, was tasked with validating the integrity of the resit results.

2. Approval and Release of Results: The Chief External Examiners (CEEs) reviewed the conduct of the resit and invited renowned psychometrics expert, Prof. Boniface Nworgu, to analyse and approve the results for public release.

3. Release of Withheld Results for Underage Candidates: As a reconciliatory measure, results of underage candidates who didn’t meet the cut-off standards—but were not involved in ongoing litigation—will be released. However, these candidates are still ineligible for admission, as they had agreed during registration to abide by age and performance requirements.

4. Waiver for Candidates Involved in Examination Malpractice: Some candidates caught soliciting help through “WhatsApp runs” and other dishonest means will have their results released as a one-time amnesty. JAMB clarified that this should not be seen as condoning misconduct, warning candidates to steer clear of dubious online groups.

5. Second Chance for Absent Candidates: Despite a 93% turnout at the resit, JAMB will allow absentees to take part in the regular mop-up examination. This waiver also applies to candidates who missed the initial 2025 UTME for any reason.
