From Apology To Praise: Iwobi Reacts To Red Card, Backs Super Eagles Fresh Talents

Iwobi was sent off after reacting angrily when he was held back by Amer Jamous during the match in Turkey. Speaking on the Alexander Yaa Digg podcast, the former Arsenal player admitted his actions were inappropriate.

He expressed regret, apologising to his teammates, coaching staff, and Nigerian fans, while acknowledging that his behaviour fell short of expectations. He added that he has learned from the incident and remains focused on improving, noting that the team still managed to secure a draw.

The Fulham F.C. star reiterated his apology, describing the red card as a mistake.

Despite the setback, Iwobi pointed out positives from the international break, particularly praising two defenders who impressed on their debut for the Nigeria national football team.

Emmanuel Fernandez and Chibuike Nwaiwu both featured in the second half of Nigeria’s 2-1 friendly victory over Iran in Antalya.

Goals from Akor Adams and Moses Simon secured the win for coach Eric Chelle’s side.
