From FCT To Aso Rock?” – Nyesom Wike Opens Up On Future Presidential Plans

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that he will not resign from his position to contest for the presidency.

Speaking during a live interview on Easter Friday, Wike explained that although the law permits such a move, doing so at this time would neither be genuine nor practical.

He noted that contesting for the presidency requires more than financial strength, emphasizing the need for strong organizational backing across all 36 states and the FCT—something he believes is not currently in place.

Wike added that resigning now would create the impression of a serious presidential bid without the proper foundation to mount a credible campaign.

The former Governor of Rivers State said Nigerian politics often encourages symbolic candidacies rather than genuine attempts to win, a practice he said he does not support.

According to him, entering the race without a solid structure would be misleading and would not reflect a sincere intention to win the presidency.

He further stressed that a presidential ambition should not be about gaining recognition or merely appearing on the ballot, but about having the capacity and preparation to lead effectively.
