From Jail To Airport: Ex-Convict Caught With South African-Bound Drugs

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted an ex-convict, Olanrewaju Akorede, attempting to smuggle Rohypnol to South Africa through the export shed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to a statement by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday, the drugs were concealed in a cargo shipment containing garri, shoes, men’s singlets, and other miscellaneous items.

Akorede had previously been convicted for a similar offense after being arrested on December 12, 2023, for attempting to traffic 4.90 kg of tramadol and 2.10 kg of Rohypnol to South Africa via the same airport.

The statement revealed that he was sentenced to two years imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Lagos, with an option of a N900,000 fine. After paying the fine and regaining his freedom, Akorede returned to the same crime.
