Mohammed commended Fubara’s proactive approach, highlighting his open-mindedness and strategic efforts to ensure effective governance at the local government level, regardless of party affiliations. The Bauchi State Governor made these remarks after attending the swearing-in ceremony of 23 democratically elected Local Government Council Chairmen in Rivers State.
In a statement issued by Nelson Chukwudi, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mohammed emphasized that Rivers remains a PDP state, even though the newly sworn-in local government officials come from different political parties. He acknowledged this as a challenge for the party and the governors but expressed pride in Fubara’s commitment to democratic principles.
“Fubara remains a loyal member of the PDP,” Mohammed said, adding that the Governor’s ability to govern without letting party allegiances interfere is a new and creative approach to Nigerian politics. He noted that Fubara’s willingness to allow other parties to participate was a testament to his political maturity and democratic instincts.
Reflecting on his own experience in 2019, Mohammed compared Fubara’s situation to his own, where he governed with limited support from his party. He praised Fubara’s political acumen, describing him as a model for democratic governance in Nigeria.
Mohammed also touched on the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP, expressing optimism about reconciliation, particularly with the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. He stressed the importance of unity within the party and affirmed that all PDP governors stand with Fubara in his efforts to strengthen governance in Rivers State.
