While addressing political stakeholders at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Fubara explained that his self-designation stems from the fact that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will not be participating in the election.

Despite his party’s absence, Fubara emphasized that, as Governor, he is bound to follow the Supreme Court’s directive regarding local government operations. Therefore, the election scheduled for Saturday, October 5th, will proceed as planned.

“Do what the law requires of you, as stipulated by the RSIEC Law, and leave the rest. RSIEC will manage its responsibilities, and once it concludes, the government will take it from there, and the process will be completed in a few days, by the special grace of God,” he stated.

Fubara continued, “In this election, I am the greatest loser because my party is not participating. This is the truth! However, following the Supreme Court ruling that mandates elected officials to manage local government affairs, I must comply as Governor.

He added, “The President, after the Supreme Court ruling, invited us for discussions, and we agreed on a 90-day compliance period. Therefore, even without my party’s participation, the local council process must continue in Rivers State.”

He expressed gratitude to the loyal party members present who would not directly benefit from the election but continue to support the process. “I want to thank you for supporting democracy, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring that Rivers State remains a strong member of the comity of states. With your support, we will continue to raise the flag of Rivers State high.”

Fubara concluded by encouraging everyone not to be swayed by propaganda or misinformation during this time. “I am pleased to see that everyone is in high spirits. Rest assured that the government will do everything possible to prevent confusion in Rivers State,” he said.
