Fuel Drama: NNPC Slams Viral Video, Reveals Dangote Refinery As Major Supplier At Lagos Stations

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has strongly rejected the false claims made in a viral video that suggests NNPC fuel lacks durability.

NNPC spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, dismissed the allegations as baseless and misleading, originating from unverified and amateur research that lacks credibility and professional oversight.

In a statement issued on Saturday, NNPC confirmed that a significant portion of the fuel sold at its filling stations in Lagos is sourced from the Dangote Refinery.

NNPC reiterated that its fuel is specially formulated to offer optimal efficiency, longevity, and environmental sustainability for consumers.

“Furthermore, a large percentage of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sold at NNPC retail stations in Lagos—where this misleading video was produced—is supplied by the Dangote Refinery, a key partner in enhancing local production and energy security. Dangote Refinery maintains rigorous industry standards, ensuring the quality of petroleum products distributed to our customers,” the statement explained.

The company also pointed out that this video is part of a broader campaign by economic saboteurs to spread misinformation and damage NNPC Ltd’s reputation. “We will not tolerate deliberate misinformation aimed at undermining our operations or misleading Nigerians,” the statement added.

NNPC further announced plans to take legal action against those spreading false information, emphasizing that anyone involved in disseminating malicious content will be held fully accountable.

“Moving forward, NNPC Ltd will pursue legal action against individuals or groups deliberately spreading falsehoods about our brand and operations. Such malicious activities will not go unpunished,” the statement concluded. NNPC urged the public to disregard fabricated content and rely on verified sources for accurate information, reaffirming its commitment to fuel availability, affordability, and quality, while adhering to global industry standards.
