Full List Unveiled: Dangote, Others Tapped For Strategic World Bank Posts Full Details
The World Bank Group has named Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of Dangote Group, among a distinguished set of new members joining its Private Sector Investment Lab, a strategic initiative focused on boosting job creation.
Joining Dangote in the latest cohort are Bill Anderson, CEO of Bayer AG; Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chair of Bharti Enterprises; and Mark Hoplamazian, President and CEO of Hyatt Hotels Corporation.
The announcement, made on Wednesday, marks the launch of a new phase for the Lab, aimed at scaling up practical solutions that drive private sector investment—particularly in job-creating sectors across developing economies.
This phase also sees an expansion of the Lab’s membership, now including influential business leaders known for their impact on employment and development.
“We are integrating this work across all our operations and directly linking it to our jobs-driven strategy,” said Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank Group.
“This isn’t about charity—it’s about guiding the private sector toward investments that deliver both returns and real economic uplift.”
Over the past 18 months, the Lab has brought together leaders from major global financial institutions to identify barriers to private investment in developing countries and to propose concrete solutions. These efforts have resulted in five priority areas, now being incorporated into the Bank’s core activities.
As it enters the implementation stage, the Lab is also welcoming additional leaders from critical sectors such as infrastructure, energy, agriculture, healthcare, tourism, and manufacturing—industries with proven potential to generate widespread employment and inclusive growth.
“We are thankful to the initial members whose contributions laid a solid foundation,” Banga added.
“Now we’re taking the next step—moving from strategy to action with even broader expertise.”
