The Chairperson of the Canadian Senate Committee on Human Rights, Salma Ataullahjan, has called for justice for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over allegations of sexual harassment.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Senator Natasha had on Tuesday taken her case to the United Nations’ Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), accusing the Nigerian Senate and its President, Godswill Akpabio, of victimizing her. She claimed she was suspended for six months after filing a petition against Akpabio over alleged sexual harassment.

“I was suspended illegally because I submitted a petition of sexual harassment against the president of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio,” Natasha stated.

She explained that she had expected Akpabio to recuse himself and submit to a fair investigation by the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petition. Instead, she said, she was silenced and suspended.

The Senate, however, justified its decision, stating that Natasha was suspended for violating Senate Standing Rules and engaging in misconduct.

On Wednesday, via her handle, Ataullahjan commended Natasha’s courage, writing:

“Stay strong, Natasha Akpoti. Your bravery in speaking out against sexual harassment is a powerful reminder that we must all continue to fight for a safer, more respectful world for everyone.”
