Governor Peter Mbah made the announcement during a courtesy visit by Maduka Okoye to the Government House in Enugu yesterday.

He lauded Okoye for bringing honour to Enugu State both nationally and internationally, describing him as a shining example for youths and a fitting role model for students in the state’s Smart Green Schools.

The governor emphasized that Okoye’s appointment as Enugu State Ambassador reflects the administration’s commitment to showcasing excellence and inspiring the next generation.

“Maduka Okoye exemplifies the finest of Enugu’s talent on the global stage,” Governor Mbah stated. “We are proud of his accomplishments and his passion for giving back. His new role as state ambassador will serve to encourage and uplift our youth, particularly those in our Smart Green Schools and across our communities.”

Governor Peter Mbah also pledged his full support for Maduka Okoye’s proposed football academy, offering land to facilitate the project. He revealed plans to renovate and upgrade the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium to FIFA standards and invited Okoye to participate in the upcoming Enugu International Marathon, expected to draw elite athletes from around the world.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to empowering youth, Governor Mbah emphasized that his government will continue to provide avenues for young people in Enugu State to excel both locally and globally.

In response, Okoye — a proud indigene of Enugu State — expressed joy at returning to his roots. He unveiled plans to establish a charitable foundation and a football academy, both aimed at uplifting the community and nurturing emerging talents.

“It feels amazing to be back home. Enugu is where I come from, and I carry that identity with pride. I’m committed to giving back through a foundation focused on humanitarian work and a football academy that will inspire and train the next generation of stars,” Okoye said.
