His ordeal began in June when he was suspended by President Bola Tinubu and placed in DSS custody for what was referred to as “investigative reasons.”

On July 25, Emefiele faced a two-count charge related to the “illegal possession” of firearms in a Federal High Court in Lagos and was subsequently granted bail in the amount of N20 million.

However, on August 17, the Federal Government withdrew the two-count charge, leading to its dismissal.

Finally, on September 22, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) officially confirmed Emefiele’s resignation, following the appointment and confirmation of Olayemi Cardoso as the substantive governor of the apex bank.
