Jonathan made these remarks amidst the ongoing political tension between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Speaking at a chieftaincy installation ceremony in Etche Local Government Area on Sunday, Jonathan urged Fubara to remain focused and dedicated to the people of Rivers State, acknowledging that such challenges are typical in the political arena.

“I know you (Gov. Fubara) are facing challenges, and at times like these, I prefer to stay silent. This is your first time in a top political office, and you will encounter many difficulties. But remember, no one becomes a General without facing battles. The challenges you face now are preparing you for greater things in politics. With your commitment and the support of the people, I believe God will see you through,” Jonathan said.

Jonathan also called for peace among stakeholders in Rivers State, stressing the state’s significance to both the Niger Delta and the broader national economy. He urged the people to avoid actions that could destabilize the region. “We want a peaceful Rivers State because it is the heart of the Niger Delta. If there is unrest here, it will impact the entire region and harm our economy. We need peace, and we want the Governor to remain calm and focused on his work,” he added.

In his response, Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to Jonathan for his support and presence at the event.
