The new appointments include Yakubu Abdulhakeem as Executive Secretary of the Kogi State Office for Disability, 165 Senior Special Assistants, and 36 Special Assistants. Additionally, the list features 574 Ward Special Assistants and 290 Local Government Special Assistants. Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulsadiq has also been appointed as the Director of Protocol for the First Lady’s Office, along with other members of her staff.
Governor Ododo congratulated all the appointees and urged them to dedicate themselves to serving the state and the global community. All appointments will officially take effect on September 1, 2024.
In a related development, Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, explained the rationale behind appointing 717 Ward Special Assistants. Fanwo stated that these appointments are part of Governor Ododo’s strategy to enhance democratic participation and ensure grassroots involvement in governance.
Fanwo emphasized that the Governor aims to bridge the gap between the state government and local communities, a contrast to previous administrations where many appointees were disconnected from grassroots realities. He noted that the new appointees are residents of their respective wards, ensuring better representation and effective grassroots engagement.
Regarding concerns about increased governance costs, Fanwo clarified that the cost of three Ward Special Assistants is equivalent to that of one Senior Special Assistant, thereby managing the financial impact of the appointments.
