Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, addressed the Diplomatic Community, asserting that President Tinubu is committed to resolving longstanding issues with bold solutions.

Idris explained that Tinubu’s administration aims to rectify ineffective policies and dysfunctional decisions that have impeded Nigeria’s progress for decades.

“Let it be clear: President Tinubu did not come into office to create hardship for Nigerians,” Idris stated. “Instead, he has come with decisive measures to tackle historical problems and address the poor policies that have hindered our nation’s growth.”

He noted that Tinubu inherited a challenging situation, with Nigeria spending 97% of its revenue on debt service amidst widespread poverty, high unemployment, deteriorating infrastructure, and insecurity.

“To address these critical issues, the administration has enacted necessary reforms to prevent economic collapse,” Idris continued. “The removal of the fuel subsidy, a costly and unsustainable practice, was a difficult but necessary decision to reallocate funds to vital sectors like healthcare, education, infrastructure, and security.”

The minister acknowledged that the elimination of the fuel subsidy and the adjustment of foreign exchange rates have caused some transitional difficulties. To mitigate these impacts, the Federal Government has introduced comprehensive intervention programs aimed at providing relief to Nigerians.

“We are committed to ensuring these interventions are effectively implemented to alleviate the transitional challenges and support the well-being of our citizens,” Idris concluded.
