Governor Abiodun Issues Warning To Customs Over Trader Intimidation

During a meeting with the Comptroller General of Customs, Mr. Adewale Adeniyi, Abiodun highlighted the need for respect and professionalism in Customs operations. According to a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Lekan Adeniran, the governor acknowledged that while there may be a few individuals involved in smuggling, most traders in the state are engaged in legitimate business.

“I want to address a significant concern regarding our market traders,” Abiodun said. “The reports of your officers breaking into shops and warehouses have caused distress among the traders. They were even planning a protest in response.”

He added, “While there might be some who engage in illegal activities, the majority are honest businesspeople. I urge the Comptroller General to ensure that Customs officers in Ogun State approach their duties with civility and respect.”

The Customs Comptroller General expressed his disapproval of any form of market invasion and assured that he would address the issue to prevent future incidents.
