Governor Diri Launches Prosperity Cup Football Tournament To Promote Sports In State

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, commenced the sixth season of the Prosperity Cup football tournament in Yenagoa on Friday, with more than two hundred teams competing for victory across 22 centers spanning the state’s eight local government areas.

Represented by his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Senator Diri inaugurated this year’s edition with a symbolic kick-off.

The Governor emphasized that Bayelsa views sports as a pivotal tool for steering youths away from drugs, crime, and other societal challenges. He highlighted the achievements of the previous edition as evidence of the progress made.

He reiterated the state’s commitment to sports development, citing notable accomplishments during the four-year tenure of the prosperity administration, particularly in para soccer and the National Sports Festival.
