Diri made this disclosure on Friday during the KOLGA (Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area) Annual Day of Thanksgiving held in his hometown, Sampou. He attributed his steadfast faith in God amid challenges to earning him the title “Miracle Governor.”

“I Rejected Rituals for Governorship”

The governor recounted an event in 2020 when a senior citizen invited him to Abuja and urged him to undertake rituals to secure his governorship ambitions. At the time, Diri, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, was contesting the declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, David Lyon, as the winner of the 2019 off-cycle governorship election.

Diri disclosed that the individual brought marabouts from Senegal to perform the rituals while the case was pending before the Supreme Court. Despite the pressures, he outrightly declined the offer.

“When the man insisted on reimbursement for the costs of bringing in the marabouts, I refunded him $10,000 for the expenses incurred,” Diri recounted.

Reflecting on his eventual victory, Diri emphasized that his reliance on God paid off when the Supreme Court declared him governor.

“God proved His faithfulness. My victory demonstrates that no one can determine your destiny when God is in control,” Diri said.
