He acknowledged the numerous obstacles Nigeria has faced on its journey to sovereignty but noted significant advancements, particularly since the restoration of democracy 24 years ago.
Emphasizing the need for introspection and shared accountability, Fintiri stated that genuine progress can only be achieved by acknowledging one’s actions and abandoning a victim mentality. “Some of these weaknesses are within our means to correct, but we will only succeed if we are brave and honest enough to accept responsibility for our actions and reject the convenient attitude of playing the victim and blaming others,” he said.
Fintiri assured the people that his administration remains dedicated to leaving no one behind and ensuring that all Adamawa citizens benefit from its efforts. “I commend you all for reaching this milestone, surviving pitfalls, and regaining dignity through democracy. While 64 years may seem short for a nation, we have had opportunities to make significant changes. Unfortunately, unpatriotic acts and injustice have hindered our progress. We must accept responsibility and reject victimhood.”
He added that his government will continue to empower the citizens of Adamawa through investments in human capital development and infrastructure, aiming to boost the economy and improve living conditions. Regarding the current hardships in the country, Fintiri expressed optimism, saying, “I see hope in Nigeria’s future. Let’s work together to provide good governance and the dividends of democracy.”
Reflecting on the significance of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary, he noted that the government’s new approach underscores the country’s potential for growth and progress. “Let us unite in supporting the government’s initiatives and work together towards a brighter future,” Fintiri urged.
The Governor also praised the security forces for their relentless efforts in maintaining peace and order in the state, highlighting his administration’s commitment to fostering unity and understanding among residents. He urged citizens to safeguard the precious peace that has been achieved.
