Governor Fintiri Strongly Backs Local Government Autonomy

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has expressed his full support for local government autonomy, aligning with widespread calls across Nigeria.

“I fully support local government autonomy, but it must be implemented in accordance with constitutional provisions,” Governor Fintiri emphasized.

Speaking in Yola on Tuesday during the inauguration of a training program organized by the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Governor Fintiri stressed the consensus among governors nationwide in favor of local government autonomy. He underscored the necessity for adherence to constitutional procedures involving all state Houses of Assembly.

Governor Fintiri also urged the federal government to consider granting autonomy to states, highlighting arbitrary deductions of oil revenues by federal authorities. He advocated for the separation of the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation from state counterparts to enhance transparency and accountability.

Asserting his administration’s achievements in physical development, particularly in northern Nigeria, Governor Fintiri credited these successes to the contributions of ANAN members serving in his government. He commended their role in combating corruption within the system.

Earlier, Dr. James Nemnebor, President of ANAN, applauded the significant infrastructural development in Adamawa State under Governor Fintiri’s leadership, attributing these achievements to transparent utilization of public funds.

“In the past four years, Governor Fintiri and his team have demonstrated a commitment to ethical governance, resulting in commendable infrastructure development across Adamawa,” Dr. Nemnebor remarked.
