At a commissioning ceremony on Saturday for two modern community town halls and the launch of a scholarship and empowerment program in Akiama and Aganya communities in Bonny Local Government Area, Fubara praised the constructive partnership between the executive and legislative branches. He acknowledged the Assembly’s prompt support in screening nominees and passing executive bills. Represented by Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff at Government House, Fubara stated, “The government and people of Rivers State congratulate you, Mr. Speaker, for your distinguished representation of the Ibani Kingdom. While the legislative arm remains independent, we are committed to working together for the prosperity of our people.”
Fubara commended Speaker Oko-Jumbo for his support of the administration, particularly in facilitating the screening of caretaker committee chairmen and accelerating executive initiatives. He highlighted the Speaker’s focus on constituency projects, contrasting this with 25 former Assembly members whom he described as “Abuja-based politicians.”
“Constituency projects show a representative’s dedication to their people,” Fubara remarked. “Meanwhile, have these 25 former members undertaken any projects or commissions? They remain absent.”
The Governor lauded Speaker Oko-Jumbo’s contributions to Bonny, including new town halls, financial aid for 100 Bonny residents, and scholarships for 30 students.
In response, Speaker Oko-Jumbo expressed gratitude to the people of Bonny for supporting the 10th Assembly and reiterated his commitment to Governor Fubara’s agenda despite opposition from “enemies of the state” or the former lawmakers. He also assured Bonny Local Government Area would feature prominently in the upcoming budget, stating, “We will strive to further the development of Bonny Kingdom. While many needs persist, I assure you that the 2025 budget, to be presented by His Excellency, will prioritize Bonny Local Government.”
