Sunday Makinde reportedly passed away early Friday morning, around 3:00 am, at his residence in Ibadan.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP described the late Makinde as a humble, brilliant, and patriotic individual who devoted his life to the progress of Oyo State and Nigeria.
“Oyo State and indeed our nation have lost a rare gem. Engr. Sunday Makinde was an exceptionally brilliant, humble, and highly ingenious professional. He was a courageous and forthright gentleman who contributed significantly to the development of his state and country,” the statement read.
The party highlighted his role as a dependable pillar of support and counselor to his brother, Governor Seyi Makinde, in his service to Oyo State.
“It is heartbreaking that Engr. Sunday Makinde departed at a time when his expertise and experience were most needed. His vision, practical solutions, and dedication to progress will be greatly missed.”
The PDP extended its heartfelt condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde, the widow of the deceased, the entire Makinde family, as well as the people of Oyo State, acknowledging the deep loss of a beloved brother, husband, father, and illustrious son.
The party prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and for strength and fortitude for the Makinde family to bear the irreparable loss.
