According to reports from *Naija News*, Obaseki and the state’s PDP chairman, Anthony Aziegbemi, withdrew their earlier threat to boycott Saturday’s governorship election. This decision came after receiving assurances from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, regarding the fairness and security of the election.

In a post on his X handle, Obaseki stated, “Following a closed-door meeting with our great party’s caucus in Edo State, we appreciate the Inspector General of Police and INEC Chairman for their commitment to ensuring a level playing field for all participants in Saturday’s election. As a party, we are ready and confident the people will choose our candidates, who are more qualified than the others.”

Obaseki also expressed hope for the release or granting of bail to detained party members in Abuja, stating that the party would be open to signing the Peace Accord on that basis.
