Governor Set To Approve Execution Order For Kano Bombing Mastermind

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has instructed the prosecution of the alleged mastermind behind the recent mosque bombing in Gadan village, Gezawa Local Government Area. Identified as Shafi’u Abubakar, the suspect is to face trial in the Shariah court, with the governor emphasizing that if found guilty, he will not hesitate to authorize the death penalty.

Yusuf revealed that the death toll from the incident had climbed to 15, following the attack during early morning prayers at the mosque, where Abubakar purportedly detonated a locally-made bomb. While one person died immediately, over 20 others sustained injuries, leading to hospitalization.

Upon returning from a trip to Abuja, the governor visited victims at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano, pledging justice for those affected by the Gadan village tragedy.

Asserting that the attack stemmed from a family dispute over inheritance rather than terrorism or political motives, Yusuf reiterated the commitment to ensuring justice for the victims. He made a personal donation of N100,000 to each victim.

Police reports confirmed Abubakar’s arrest, with the suspect attributing his actions to resentment over perceived unfair distribution of inheritance among family members. Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 1, Umar Sanda, clarified that the incident was not terrorism-related but a consequence of intra-family conflicts.

Expressing regret over the loss of life, Sanda emphasized that Abubakar employed a locally-made explosive device in the attack, which resulted in one fatality among the hospitalized victims.
