Governor Sule addressed these claims on Tuesday while hosting a coalition of denominations under the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at the Government House in Lafia during a thank-you visit.
He described the insinuations as unfounded, emphasizing that Northern governors continue to support President Tinubu’s administration.
“It is only in a country like Nigeria where people who opposed President Tinubu now claim to support him more than those who stood by him and fought to bring him into office,” Sule said.
The governor clarified that the Northern governors’ call for broader consultations on tax bills, particularly concerning Value Added Tax (VAT), is being misinterpreted as opposition to the President.
“Our demand for more consultations on tax reforms is about ensuring inclusivity and fairness. It has nothing to do with opposing the President,” he stated.
Governor Sule further commended Tinubu’s leadership, noting that his policies have made governance more efficient and beneficial for states.
“I am pleased that you are following up on the tax reforms because you advocated for more sensitization. That’s all we’re asking for. There is no personal agenda against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We deeply appreciate him,” Sule said.
He highlighted that thanks to Tinubu’s support, the state has been able to execute projects without borrowing any funds.
“We are not borrowing a single naira for the work being done. I cannot, therefore, turn against the President who has helped us achieve this,” he added.
However, Governor Sule emphasized that there are underlying issues surrounding the tax bills that need to be clarified for better understanding.
