In a statement released on Tuesday by the Service Spokesman, DCC Abubakar Umar, it was revealed that David made a valiant attempt to prevent the escape of inmates and protect the facility, but unfortunately lost his life in the line of duty. The statement honored David’s courageous sacrifice, highlighting his unwavering dedication to his service and national security.
The Acting Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, on behalf of the Nigerian Correctional Service, extended heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues, and loved ones of the fallen officer. “His service and ultimate sacrifice will forever be remembered and honored,” the statement read.
The NCoS also assured that they are working closely with relevant security agencies and local communities to recapture the remaining escapees and bring them to justice. Measures are also being implemented to improve security across all custodial centers in the country to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Service reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of officers and the security of custodial facilities nationwide.

It is worth noting that twelve inmates escaped during the jailbreak at the Koton Karfe facility, resulting in the death of one officer. As of now, the federal government has confirmed the recapture of five escapees, with efforts still underway to apprehend the remaining fugitives.
