Gunmen Strike Anambra Council Secretariat, Setting Multiple Vehicles On Fire

Gunmen believed to have ties to separatist groups launched an attack yesterday morning on the Ogbaru Local Government Area secretariat in Anambra State, setting fire to approximately six vehicles. Videos circulating on social media depicted multiple vehicles within the premises engulfed in flames.

Confirming the incident, the Anambra State police authorities condemned the attack as cowardly. According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the state police command, Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam reported that the assailants, arriving in motorcycles and a vehicle, opened fire indiscriminately. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported, though four patrol vehicles belonging to vigilante operatives were destroyed in the confrontation.

The police response team, supported by vigilante operatives, successfully repelled the attackers, prompting their retreat. Efforts are underway to track down and apprehend the perpetrators. A joint security force, including the Army, Navy, and other agencies, has been deployed to the scene for further assessment and ongoing operations.

CP Itam commended the bravery of the security operatives involved and assured the public of continued collaborative efforts to combat criminal activities in the state.
