Gunmen have murdered Raymond Timothy, the councilorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Pari Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, along with his brother, James Timothy……CONTINUE READING 

The incident was reported by Barnabas Chawai, a PDP chieftain in the local government, during a phone interview with PUNCH Online on Sunday. According to Chawai, the two were killed on Sunday evening while riding a motorcycle home from a political campaign in Kizachi Village.

Chawai speculated that the killings could be politically motivated and called on security agencies to take swift action to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. He emphasized the need for immediate measures to prevent further violence as the October 19 local government elections approach.

The victims leave behind three children, with their wife pregnant and expecting their fourth child, Chawai noted.

John Wanneh, the Secretary to the Village Head of Kizachi, shared that he was with Raymond Timothy around 6 PM before they parted ways for him to return home to Bakin-Kogi. “It was not more than 10 to 15 minutes after we separated that we heard gunshots coming from some guinea corn farms. We cannot say for sure who committed this crime or if it is politically related,” Wanneh stated.

He also appealed for government assistance in constructing a bridge and road for easier access during emergencies, highlighting that poor road conditions currently hinder security operatives from reaching the village.

The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, did not respond to calls and messages from PUNCH Online regarding the incident.
