The region has recently experienced a wave of violence. Just days earlier, youths reportedly attacked the Ahoada East Council Administrator, beating him and compelling him to resign under threat.

Police spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko explained that the attack was orchestrated by suspected cultists led by Umegbewe Kingsley, alias ‘Gutam’, and one Opaka. The attackers targeted the OSPAC office near the secretariat, shooting dead Ngozi Ipah, an operative, and later killing Corporal Francis Friday, who was stationed nearby with the Special Intervention Squad.

Although police patrol teams responded promptly, the assailants had fled before their arrival. The injured victims were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. Their remains were deposited at the Ahoada General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

In a firm response, Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju visited the site and ordered the deployment of tactical units to track the assailants. Vowing justice for the slain officers, he urged the public to assist law enforcement by reporting any suspicious behavior or persons.
