In a statement issued Tuesday night, the congressman claimed he was told during the tour that “over 600,000 Christians have been displaced in Benue alone.” He added that survivors shared horrifying accounts of killings and destruction allegedly carried out by Islamic extremists—stories he said would “stay with him until death.”

Responding via his official handle, Bashir Ahmad dismissed Moore’s claims as biased and incomplete. He criticized the lawmaker for failing to visit IDP settlements in other regions where Muslims are also displaced.

Ahmad wrote, “The existence of IDP camps in Benue doesn’t mean there are none in other parts of the country.” He argued that Moore’s perspective was already shaped by preconceived views, noting that “a balanced assessment would require visiting other places and seeing the full situation firsthand.”

Meanwhile, as insecurity persists in parts of the North-Central region, the Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Barkin Ladi, Plateau State, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, has issued a renewed call for Christians to defend their communities against potential attacks.

His remarks come as residents continue to remember the December 2023 massacre, which left more than 200 people dead across 17 rural communities in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi LGAs during a series of coordinated attacks blamed on armed Fulani militias.

In a newly released video, reported by Daily Post, Dachomo insisted that self-defense had become essential due to what he described as the government’s consistent failure to safeguard vulnerable communities.

He declared, “All youths, this is a command, not advice… defend the weak, the elderly, pregnant women, widows—stand for the land with your blood.”

The cleric said he had previously issued warnings—most recently two weeks earlier—about looming attacks during the Christmas season, warnings he said were ignored. He again labeled the violence in Plateau as “an ongoing Christian genocide” and a campaign of territorial takeover, lamenting that several of his congregants had been among the casualties.

Dachomo urged young people in rural areas—particularly in Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bassa, and Mangu LGAs—to stay alert and be prepared to protect their communities in the absence of adequate state intervention.
